CONFESSIONS OF A PET-A-HOLIC
Big-hearted hippy girl, Jupiter, tells us about her many, many moons
Yes, I’m one of those girls. The one who can’t resist a pair of big, shining, needy, hopeful pair of adorable little eyes…
I have rescued 63 pets. You earthlings like to call them moons.
It’s like, my cosmic duty, y’know? I’m the largest planet in the Solar System. More than twice as massive as all the other planets combined--- like, 88,846 miles in diameter! So because of my size (is it my fault the universe blessed me with hair with this kind of volume?) I have this totally powerful gravitational pull that attracts the little wayward souls straight to me. And when they do, I embrace them and keep them safe and happy in my orbit of love. All 63 of them.
The first four I found---Io the pup, Callisto the cat, Europa the bunny and Ganymede the ferret--- I call my Galilean Moons after that crazy Earth dude, Galileo Galilei, who first saw them over 400 years through a telescope he totally made himself. It was so awesome ‘cause when he found them, it clued him in that the universe didn’t revolve around Earth (which is what everybody totally thought way back way then,) and changed how astronomers saw the universe, like, forever. Psychadelic, huh?
So, yeah, I’m one of those girls. And I’m, like, totally happy to be that way, y’know? I mean, how can one strive to become one with the universe without reaching out to all creatures in need, y’know?
Peace Out,
Jupiter
