More TFH backstory! Thanks to all for the huge crowdfund bump in the last few days - you've secured stories for all our main characters and I have a LOT of work to do.

But we still need your help! Please contribute and/or spread the word so Mane6 can make their game a reality.

First, a little backstory on the backstory....

Cattlekind are a nomadic race who roam the grasslands of their nation, The Prairie. Constant travellers, they have no permanent homes, and instead house their vast herd in wooden, covered wagons that they pull across the nation as they look for fresh grass to graze upon. Cattlekind believe in keeping life clean and simple and have a constant faith that the land will provide for whatever they may need. They are a sturdy breed, hard-working, down-to-earth, and ever grateful for all that Mother Fœnum has provided them. And having seen so much of what The Prairie has to offer - the flowering fields, the rolling plains, the golden sunsets - the cattle have developed a deep love of their country and are intensely patriotic. So much so, they can be a little judgmental of other “extravagant” cultures, not quite understanding why others would not lead lives as simple and happy as theirs. Still, they are known throughout the world as trustworthy, kind folk who only wish that all others could be as content as they.

And now....

For the next chapter in the Book of Lore, we'd like to do something special. We're letting our supporters pick which character's past we'll delve into next. The poll will remain open until the Them's Fightin' Herds crowdfund reaches 265K, and the backstory for the character that you all pick will be published soon after. Then we'll repeat the poll for all the remaining characters, whose stories will be revealed for every additional 15K afterwards. So if you have a favorite character whose story you can't wait to hear (or if you've ever felt like telling me what you want me to write next), vote now and tell all your friends to vote, too!

Oh- and make sure to please spread the word to help get to the next 15K!

Click here to vote for the next character, and click here to help the crowdfund.

Thanks for your support - and forgive the puns.   :)

The Them's Fightin' Herds crowdfund is up 46%! Thanks to everyone who contributed.

For those of you still on the fence, here is a taste of the story behind the game - concepts and plot that will all be included in the story mode version of the game. Got to get a little gritty with this one - a nice change of pace I enjoyed!

And for those of you who don't even know what I'm talking about, read this previous journal post that explains the story behind the story behind the crowdfund for the game.

AAAAAAND - for anyone who has or hasn't, can or can't contribute, please help spread the word! Tell your friends, link to us on your favorite forums. All help is appreciated!

Enjoy!

We've revealed out 6th character - Tianhuo! She is a Longma. Half horse, half dragon.

The fundraiser for Them's Fightin' Herds is going very well, but we have so much more to go! If you want to see Tianhuo beat up the likes of Velvet the Reindeer, Arizona the cow, or the Alpaca, Lamb or Unicorn --- or see them kick her fiery butt, please considering contributing. And if you can't please help spread the word.

A few years back, a small group of young, talented artists were in the midst of completing a fan fighting game with the characters from a show I developed. The IP owners shut them down (understandably), but the work was so good, and made with such love and passion, I wanted to help see it live on. So I offered the group original character designs and a whole new universe to set a new game in.

Today we are launching a crowdfund campaign to see this new game come to life! Please consider contributing.

Supporting independent artists and their passion is magic!

Like cute animals? Like fighting? Um, WHO DOESN'T??? Come SEPT 21 my pals at Mane6 and I will be starting a crowdfund to get such a fighting game up and running!

Backstory: Mane6 is a group of talented artists and animators who put much love into a fighting game (based on some cartoon ponies you may know) that they intended to release for free on the internet. Though the were totally transparent over the two years they were creating it, alas, the IP owners asserted their trademark rights (as was their prerogative) and put an end to their efforts.

However, I LOVED it - it was beautifully animated and funny in exactly the sort of way I would want such a game to be. Character-based fighting? YES PLEASE!

We are creating a NEW game with NEW characters and all the same FUN!

I'll post updates as we have them. Please consider helping our little labor-of-love out.

I can't believe it's been a whole year since I've updated my journal! Sorry for being so out of touch. As usual, my lame excuse is that I'm busy - but for a not-lame reason, at least. If you haven't already heard, I'm directing my first feature film. Its an animated comedy based on the myth of Medusa. We're in the early phases of development at Sony Pictures Animation, and I'm in a daily state of shock and gratitude for the opportunity.

But that's not why I'm posting!

Ironically, and embarrassingly, the very last journal I posted - a whole year ago - was to announce the same thing. My pals at the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, CA are holding their annual fundraiser on Oct. 25 from 4-7 and I'd like to extend an invitation to all my DA friends!

And just like last year, I'll be there to chat and sign stuff. So bring your MLP or Powerpuff goodies that are in need of a name scribbled on them! You can purchase tickets here. Please spread the word!

This small zoo offers a chance to see many exotic animals up close and much more personal than your average zoo. And at fundraisers like the Safari Social, you get the special opportunity to actually interact with many of these animals! You can pet a fennec fox, feed a porcupine or meet a sloth! Plus, My Little Pony fans will get to see the special animals named for MLP characters Angel and Tank! To see the kinds of animals you'll get to see, click here.

Those who've been following me for the last few years may know what WLC is all about, but in case you don't, here's my little spiel:

The Wildlife Learning Center  in Sylmar cares for a few dozen wild and exotic animals and treats them as "ambassadors" to help teach the public about wildlife conservation. What is so wonderful about WLC, is that many of the animals in there care are rescues. Many were illegally kept as pets and were either turned over or turned in to WLC for proper care. Others were animals born in the wild, but injury or acclimation to humans kept them from being able to survive in their natural habitats. Still others were exotic pets who grew too large or otherwise difficult to care for by their original owners. Without WLC, all of these rescued animals would be seriously ill or dead.

As a non-profit organization, WLC relies on the public to raise the funds they need to give these amazing animals the care they need, from proper nutrition and habitats to the best veterinary care. Coming for a visit will not only be fun, it will be for a good cause!

This Saturday, Oct. 12 from 4-7, please join me and my very good friends at the Wildlife Learning Center for their annual Safari Social and help raise funds for their wonderful organization. The Safari Social, held at WLC in Sylmar, CA, will raise money to care for the many wild animals that act as animal ambassadors at the center, educating the public about wildlife conservation. In fact, WLC has just been honored with a "Best in LA" Award from LA Weekly!

I will be there to hang out, chat, and sign stuff. I'd love to see you there! This small zoo offers a chance to see many exotic animals up close and much more personal than your average zoo. And at fundraisers like the Safari Social, you get the special opportunity to actually interact with many of these animals! You can pet a fennec fox, feed a porcupine or meet a sloth! Plus, My Little Pony fans will get to see the special animals named for MLP characters Angel, Tank and Owlycious! To see the kinds of animals you'll get to see, click here.

Some of you may be wondering what I've been up to since my departure from MLP a couple years ago. Well, among other things, I've been helping my husband, Craig McCracken (the creator of Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends), make his new show for Disney Channel: Wander Over Yonder starring Jack McBrayer!

And now, we can finally tell you just exactly when you can see WOY for the first time: Aug. 16 on the Disney Channel, right after the Phineas and Ferb Mission Marvel special! For a little taste, here's a little promo that aired on Disney Channel just a few days ago... Click me!!!

We do so hope you tune in for some serious super-cartoony silliness.

I want to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated and spread the word. Though we did not reach our ultimate goal, this is still a huge sum and will be a huge help for the animals WLC cares for.

You all rock!

Today I'll be doing an MLP Q&A via Twitter to raise money for Wildlife Learning Center.

The first will be 12-12:30 pm PST, then I'll do another tonight 9-8 PST.

All yous gotsta do is send me a screen grab of your $25 donation and I'll answer anything about Season 1 OR about the general development of MLP:FiM or the characters featured in Season 1.

If you miss either one, let me know. If enough people are interested, I'll do another tomorrow at 12.

Remember, should we reach our goal of $48,000, WLC will host a Thank You Bronies Party in Sylmar, CA where you can meet me, Tara Strong, Amy Keating Rogers, Cindy Morrow and Meghan McCarthy! Please help donate or spread the word!

WLC Brony Thank You Party is growing!

Tue Apr 30, 2013, 9:44 PM
So... many of you may know that I've been helping my friends at Wildlife Learning Center raise money for the their Indiegogo campaign for badly needed funds to care for their amazing wild animals. (If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, take a gander at my previous journal post here.)

We have an interesting development as far as incentives go. To recap, in addition to the great donation incentives offered at the Indiegogo site, for each $10,000 raised, WLC is naming one of their animals after MLP pets, and so far, we've raised enough to name a rabbit ANGEL and a salcuta tortoise TANK. Thanks to all who helped donate or spread the word!

If we should reach our ultimate goal of $48,000, WLC will host a Thank You Bronies party at their center in Sylmar, CA with me and Tara Strong---- but as of today, some more MLP staffers have offered to join the party!

AMY KEATING ROGERS, CINDY MORROW and MEGHAN MCCARTHY!

That's 5 MLP staffers, all in one place waiting around to talk to any brony who can make their way to Los Angeles for an afternoon. But we got to get all the way to $48,000 to make it happen!

If you live nearby --or close enough for the visit-- and want come see us and the animals, please spread the word and help us raise the funds WLC desperately needs! There is only 3 days left!!

We all hope (I mean, really, really hope!) to see you there!

**UPDATE 4/28 -- We have reached TANK TIER!!!! TANK TIER has been achieved!!! Thanks so much you all --- onward to OWLOWICIOUS!!!

CAN'T DONATE?? You can still help! JUST CLICK "LIKE" ON OUR INDIEDGOGO PAGE! The more activity our campaign gets, the better chance we have of being featured on the front page. If that happens, we'll have far more exposure to new people than ever before. Just a simple click could help us raise more to help the animals and get us closer to naming the animals, and to a party with me and Tara. **

**UPDATE 4/25 -- we have just $3300 to go before we name an amazing, enormous Salcuta Tortoise TANK!

**UPDATE! 4/21 -- We have reached ANGEL TIER! Repeat: We have reached ANGEL TIER! You guys seriously rock! Onward to TANK!!!**

...because it could happen!

My friends at the Wildlife Learning Center are fast approaching the deadline on their Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to care for the dozens of wild animals they provide a home for. So far, we've raised just over $6,000 of our $48,000 goal---- and most of it has come from the (not unexpected) generosity of people in the brony community.

Though we appreciate the money raised so far, it's not nearly enough for the special care these animals need. So, because I've told Wildlife Learning Center of the amazing generosity of bronies (Rarity would be proud!), Wildlife Learning Center would like to reach out directly to the brony community with some VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU INCENTIVES in addition to the great incentives from the Indiegogo site!

With each $10,000 increment reached, WLC has agreed to name one of their animals as a PONY PET and have their names proudly displayed in front of their enclosures.... permanently!

At $10,000, they'll name one of their bunnies, ANGEL! (very first sketch of Angel, BTW...)

At $20,000, they'll name one of the Sulcatta Tortoises, TANK!

At $30,000, they'll name a great horned owl, OWLOWICIOUS!

At $40,000, they'll name one of their alligators, GUMMY! (very first sketch of Gummy, as well, BTW...)

And finally, if the entire goal of $48,000 is reached, WLC would like to host a THANK YOU BRONIES PARTY
at the center, in Sylmar Ca! Not only will bronies be able to meet the newly named creatures, but the always-amazing and oh-so generous TARA STRONG!!!

(oh... and I'll be there, too.)

Many of you have already donated (thank you!) and many of you just cannot. But you can help get these little critters named and have a cute animal party with me and Tara by helping spread the word to other bronies. Any little bit of cash or personal publicity to the brony community will really help.

For more info about The Wildlife Learning Center, their amazing animals and their Indiegogo campaign to raise badly needed funds, please take a look at this previous journal entry.
