BRONYCON Documentary is COMPLETE!

Sun Jan 20, 2013, 12:25 PM

It's finally finished! It's been several months in the making, and took the dedicated efforts of some very passionate people to complete.

For those of you who may not know, Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony is a documentary (Produced by Michael Brockhoff, Executive Produced by John de Lancie, Tara Strong and myself) that endeavors to enlighten anyone who may be curious about who this unexpected fandom is comprised of, and just exactly why these adults are so passionate about something that was never intended for them.

You can purchase the documentary for download HERE!!!!

A gigantic thanks to all the generous backers who funded the film on Kickstarter. Your enthusiasm and support ensured the film could be held to a very high production standard. Additional thanks to the contributors: the bronies who agreed to be interviewed and/or to share their stories, and the fan artists who lent their talents to provide music and animation. I'm so proud that this film is not only about such an amazing fandom, but also features what it is capable of!!!

I do have a request for those of you kind enough to purchase the film. We do hope you will share the film with your family and close friends, but please do not upload the film to the Internet (YouTube, etc.) Though we raised a nice chunk of change on Kickstarter, all the money went into the making of the film. There are several people who, in the name of making the film the best it could be, agreed to wait until AFTER the film was complete to receive their compensation. The money raised at this point is for them. Please understand that making entertainment is a livelihood. The money is needed to live lives, pay bills, rent and mortgages, to feed families. These projects cannot be made if those making it cannot make their living from it.

Additionally, if the film is available to view all over the internet, it disquailifies it from being entered into many film festivals and keeps it from being considered for airing on tv, cable or other entertainment outlets.  Not only does that keep the makers of the film from their due compensation, but it lessens the reach to the non-brony audience, keeping people from opening their minds to who bronies are.

John de Lancie offers a more complete explanation in his letter to Equestria Daily here.

Thank you for honoring our request, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the film!!!

With love,
Lauren

We need to get this documentary out on TV or on DVD/Blu-ray just because of how amazing and incredibly well done it is on the history of bronies and how the cast and crew of Friendship is Magic took to it when they found out about them and the rest of the community.

I honestly just don't understand the haters and why they bashed it because it brought in older males and teens in their early 20s and older men when it is considered "girly". It's beyond girly by a billion miles because it's just that good, I can't exactly put my finger on what made it so successful but I'll leave it to those who know of it's secret.

What I just wrote on my Facebook:

I just watched this and it inspired me on so many levels. Be it about what makes conventions so popular, that My Little Pony is more popular than I had thought, that I could have sooooo talked about this with John de Lancie, but that it’s too late (seeing as I was with him at Montreal Comiccon last year), that I love even more the idea of organizing events for the whole community and to bring a moment of absolute joy to those who come live the experience of a ‘’convention’’.

Because some may be closed minded about the fact. The problem of this generation is that most of the people think that they can be right on any matter/subject/etc. Although, that's a problem itself, because that promotes mostly violence in different ways (Maybe that's where it came the bullying stuff as well). But the problem of this is that we may know what's wrong, but we don't find a complete way to solve it, or maybe we do, but people won't listen or pay attention to the solution, making it difficult.

No one in earth is God I tell you, we are nothing but humans beings, nothing more, nothing else. Yet, some people see this as an 'sick addiction', and they try to force us to dislike it by all means (Yup, bullying).

Why don't haters just shut up? We Bronies can like whatever shows we want to like, whether you think it is socially acceptable or not. The truth is that you may hate and call it a "little girl show" but you're wrong. Have most of the haters even seen the show? Most likely not. The hate comes from ignorance, as I speak from experience; I was a hater before i actually watched a few episodes of the show, and now I love it. Although i do agree that rule 34 of MLP:FiM is creepy as f***

I hated the show because I thought the animation sucked. Whether or not it was based on a franchise like My Little Pony was irrelevant to me. A cartoon could be based off of any kind of franchise (or even just be something completely original), and if it were made the same way I would still hate it.

And I can certainly say that I've seen the show. It's everywhere, so how could I not? But I just didn't like what I saw.

Haven't seen this myself, but it occurred to me that free access to stuff on Youtube, etc can be and sometimes is a powerful means of getting lots of people to watch something. If films like this are really worth seeing, then maybe you do some kind of take on crowd funding and do, if X people buy it, then we'll release it for free (maybe post film festivals, etc).

The fact that a lot of people go to great lengths to creep Lauren out is disturbing.

It's funny and yet disturbing to see people go on about pony porn as if it's normal to even think about such a thing..

I'm not a Brony, but I sense that a lot of fans have crossed a lot of lines.
That line in the sand has been broken and now that ship is falling apart.

I feel sorry that someone who created something so successful has to put up with such a thing.

Actually Lauren know that there is R34 of MLP on internet, she said that she avoids it, but at least, she know the difference between bronies and cloppers. Rule 34 have nothing to see with the brony community itself.

Of course the rule 34 is disturbing, but unfortunately complaining about it does absolutely nothing.

I still don't see it as acceptable either way, it's not that I hate them it's just disturbing...

Of course, furries are an interesting topic in themselves. Quite like bronies, a lot of them are actually misunderstood due to a generalisation made about them by (wouldn't you know it) the internet. Not all furries are fetishists, just like not all bronies are cloppers. The two fandoms actually have a lot in common!

It's a little disturbing that someone should want to creep someone else out, at least with that sole intent. :(

However, I would argue in some ways that pony porn is no different than the usual, human kind. Ponies are anthropomorphized to make them appealing to us. I suspect we would be much less sympathetic to the characters if they behaved less like us, talked and thought less like us, and their faces and facial expressions were more like horses (pre-G4). That said, it's no surprise that it exists. People have desires and emotions, that's a fact. They aren't always all that free to express them (not that they always should allowed to). We impose those desires on the way we view/think about humans and things that are like humans.

It's no more across the line than the "usual" kind (that we're used to "accepting" as a reality) is.

But still that's socially unacceptable, it's illegal and yet disturbing.

If it's humans, it's our own kind that's the way it goes, but with this!? NO! Wrong, just wrong.

The fact that the fan-base consists of no one but outcasts and man-children states the obvious that being a fan of something that is considered children material (Specifically little girls) is the breaking point of it being really f****ed up.

Words don't describe how terrible this is and also... I can't reply to anything else a fan of this show says anymore, anything they say related to their fandom is going to give me an Aneurysm!

But you're right on the basis of that being their thoughts and emotions, but disturbing to an outsider who wants to STAY one.

I think Lauren had second thoughts about the fandom too, but she didn't realize the extent of THIS happening with all the nasty things they do, UCK!

Sorry, whatever it's questionable morals, pornography is legal (at least when it involves adults), last I heard. Whether something is socially acceptable doesn't necessarily affect it's existence.

---
Yeah, right, come on. In any case outcasts are people too, and people are people. Just because they like a show with ponies doesn't make them not manly. Just because something is considered "child material" doesn't mean that it does not touch on real world matters. To some people, friends are very important, and a show that happens to emphasize that and clearly point out that making and keeping friends is a worthy, if troublesome task might just appeal to them.

I'm sorry you can't find it in yourself to talk to people in a fandom. That is up to you. Nothing is going to give you an aneurysm (those come with from birth) and there's no reason to get worked up over what you can ignore or flag (at least on dA) as inappropriate.

P.S. There's a reason someone invented the NSFW tag... Perhaps a NSFSP (Not Safe For Sensible People) one might be useful as well.
P.P.S I'm going to take that you refer to being an outsider as meaning not privy to their particular thoughts and emotions?

*

Since I don't know her, I wouldn't know. However, I doubt that she is so dumb or naive as to be blind to such a possibility. If she chooses to ignore what some people do, that's her prerogative.

No! Pornography of Animals is not legal (Seriously, who would consider such a thing)?

And yes being Socially acceptable does affect it's existence: You're saying that if a man had a sexual relationship with his sister that even though it's socially un-acceptable it's not relevant that it is un-acceptable that it's okay regardless? That's even more wrong.

Also I mean outcasts as in Man-children who spread their Cheeto encrusted fat fingers all over their delicates over a show for girls... You don't find anything wrong with that? Not even in the slightest? I'd say you're one of them if I'm not mistaken (Seriously wtf is wrong with you?).

And the NSFW flag is only for normal human pornography and gore, not sick twisted fandoms which consist of pornography of Ponies. Anything else you said is at least to damage control how bad it is, it's that bad. It's worse than bad.

There's no word for it yet so I'm just going to name you frizzlefuckqueens until I can come up with a better name.

I'm sorry but it's just completely fucked.

Bestiality is illegal, and also deliberately depicted child-like pornography (i.e. where the participants could be easily construed as children in some way). When it comes to art at least and they're meant to be adult characters, then it's legal. Unless of course you are referring to something else entirely. I can comfortably say that Furry porno wouldn't be illegal (weird as it is, and it seems really weird to me).

... doesn't *necessarily* affect it's existence ... That "necessarily" is important, things don't automatically become illegal simply because society doesn't like it. I'm not arguing okay or not okay, i'm arguing legality.

You are very mistaken, on most if not all counts. I despise you for your assumptions. My fingers are nowhere near fat, if I weighed any less I'd probably be underweight. I certainly do not do unmentionable things while watching my little pony or with regard to it all. In fact I'd prefer not to spend ANY of my time thinking about even the possibility that someone else does. Nevertheless whether they do so or not does not make it illegal for them to do so... As to whether the show is "for girls", I think maybe you should have a chat with Lauren Faust about that. While the intended audience may have been girls, the show was made in a way that it got attention and interest from other people -- and not just the specific group you are complaining about.

NSFW covers a multitude of things. Did you invent the flag? How could you possibly know what it is ONLY for, then? Not Safe for Work means what it says, it's not safe to view at work. Safe in this context, last I checked, means that it wouldn't be offensive and would not get you in trouble with the law or your employer with regards to the content.

I think maybe you're a ranting nutcase who needs to learn that sometimes you don't spend time worrying about things OTHER people do that mostly don't affect you.

NSFW doesn't count under Bestiality, or other things that are illegal. If it was it would be taken down as soon as an admin or mod has seen it and whomever has posted such a thing on the internet risks going to jail, even of story!

You and John Delancie should both be ashamed of yourselves. This documentary is nothing short of public marketing and propaganda and shows a very limited view of YOUR selections of the fandom. The amount of editing you must have done for this astounds me. You make a show about honesty loyalty and generosity and then produce this blatant marketing lie. Though I was a fan of both you and De Lancie, I am a fan of neither now. Hopefully this will be the peak of your career and the rest would be a downwards slope.

I bear you no ill will, but you disappointed me both as a person and as a fan. The rabid toadies here will flame me down for this for sure, but I am not intimidated by the weak minded who follow the dishonest. You should feel bad for yourself and hopefully one day you change your greedy ways.

Faust cares about the fanbase? False. Faust isn't even a part of the show anymore. Tara Strong? Well Tara has a huge fanbase of her own in her bazillion other roles. Nothing makes this more special except when the fans swear at her sometimes at cons. John De Lancie didn't even like ponies until he saw how popular it made him.

Ergo - Money speaks for itself. Faust got PAID for that documentary in fact they all got paid for it. By who you ask? The fans who kickstarted it. Faust and Delancie had MORE THAN ENOUGH money to make it. Why did they need so much money for one measly documentary when a dozen of its kind already exist? Heck I've seen huge documentaries made with an ungodly small budget.

It's a marketing tool used to spread this virulent plague. Why? Because the merchandise gives them all money. The values of the show have already been discarded by anyone involved in its production. It's a shame that the creator of it is also full of crap.
